The quality fiberglass dinghy beginning with the Jolly Boat, then the Boss Boat, then Rigid boats and, last but not least, Crystal Bay Boats offer several advantages over the inflatable boats.
First, and most obvious is you do NOT have to pump the boat up. Don’t laugh. It is a real obligation that becomes more often as your inflatable ages. Look around at the inflatables in your marina. How many are fully inflated and ready to use? NOT MANY.
Secondly, those inflatable tubes are full of air. HOPEFULLY!
The fiberglass dinghy has storage available in those hull sides. Let’s face it, storage space in a dinghy is valuable. So the space in the hull tubes of a fiberglass dinghy is a HUGE plus.
Third, the hull tubes of fiberglass dinghy’s are flat on top allowing one to walk on them safely. Try that on your slimy, round tube inflatable dinghy.
Fourth, Crystal Bay and Rigid boats have Coast Guard certified plates and have proven flotation characteristics in the event of a swamping. Inflatable boats rely on the air in the cylinders to float. What happens if a cylinder is punctured? What happens if more than one cylinder is punctured? I know what happens, and you can imagine what would happen. I can tell you from first-hand experience that a fiberglass dinghy may fill up with water but the motor can still be used to put-put home.
There are a lot more reasons to own a fiberglass dinghy over an air-filled inflatable wanna be.
